The proposal is inspired by careful studies of a chosen movie (Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus ) and the behind-scenes of film production. Battersea Power Station was one of the major film site for the movie thus this site was chosen for the proposal. Taking inspiration from the study of film production and the “miniature” world behind the scenes of films within film studios, this is a design proposal of a dwelling for a film director who lives within his own sets.
The design of architectural elements around the house plays with scale, orientation and composition, intending to allow every element in the house to be used as film sets. The proposal attempts to play with the shifting of scale, orientation and composition of architectural elements (e.g. A wall of facade, a floor of facade, a door of stairs, a ceiling of window, etc.). It attempts to arouse curiosity and blurring the boundaries between the scale of the film sets and the real scale of the house. Various level of scales merges as one. A door could be the size of a drawer. A window could be orientated towards the sky. A row of facades could be a wall within the room.
